Seahouses by Nicola Pennill |
The third annual Art Exhibition, themed "Colour and Contrast" saw an unprecedented increase in visitor numbers over previous such events hosted by the The Rural Training Centre. After excellent publicity thanks to Leslie Goodwin of the Leicester Mercury and both the Rutland and Melton times, over 440 people came along to view the works and many enjoyed a cup of tea and a slice of home made cake in the cafe. Jewellery, wood carvings, sculpture, batik, silk painting and photography added to the variety of media on view. Painters including Alan Oliver, Jan Osbond, Carroll Pendery, Ken Forrest, Nicola Pennill and Stuart Ball were amongst the exhibitors and all were pleased to have sold work during the nine day exhibition.
Visitors were asked to choose their favourite three works from the display; Roger Lancaster's watercolour, Burley-on-the-Hill was selected as the most popular with The Old Olive Mill, Fiskardo, Kefallonia by Tim Hughes, a close second choice.
The organisers are looking forward to the 2008 exhibition with excitement as interest amongst the local community grows and more and more artists are expressing a wish to have their work submitted for display.
